California

Coastal Clean-up, in conjunction with National Estuaries Day
Watsonville, California on Saturday, September 15

Elkhorn Slough NERR will again be participating in the California Coastal Cleanup Day in celebration of National Estuaries Day. Contact the Reserve to learn how you can join the reserve in this annual beach cleanup and state's largest volunteer event.

National Estuaries Day & National Public Lands Day at Tijuana River NERR
Imperial Beach, CA on Saturday, September 29 from 9:00 am

Interested in volunteering to improve the Tijuana River estuary? If so, join Tijuana River NERR in the largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands in the United States.! Register here for the Habitat Restoration event at the Tijuana Estuary Visitor Center.

Delaware

Coastal Clean-up, in conjunction with Delaware's National Estuaries Day
Multiple sites, Delaware on Saturday September 15, 2012 from 9am - Noon

This year Coastal Clean-up will again coincide with National Estuaries Day. A great way of celebrating estuaries is by cleaning them-up! This is your chance to help Delaware NERR make a difference this Estuaries Day. There are a variety of sites around the state, check out the Coastal Clean-up page to sign up for a site and to get more information.

Florida

SHELLSHOCKED Film Screening, Research & Shucking Demo
St. Augustine, Florida on Friday September 21, 2012 from 5 pm - 8 pm

GTM NERR hosts a fun filled evening of oyster shucking demo, local estuary research updates and a screening of the new documentary, SHELLSHOCKED, presented by filmmaker Emily Driscoll. Check out the GTM NERR Estuaries Day page for more information.

Estuaries Day at GTM NERR
Ponte Vedra, Florida on Saturday September 22, 2012 from 10 am - 3 pm

Don't miss the festivities at GTM NERR's Environmental Learning Center. Activities include guided beach, trail, kayak and bike tours, live music and a second screening of the documentary, SHELLSHOCKED. Check out the GTM NERR Estuaries Day page for more information.

National Estuaries Day at Apalachicola NERR
Eastpoint, Florida on Friday, September 28 from 1:30 pm - 6 pm

The Reserve has put together a full afternoon of fun, free activities at their visitor center to celebrate National Estuaries Day. Activities include tours of the facility, games, interactive exhibits and door prizes. Check out the Reserve's event page for more information on how to participate.

Estuaries Day at Rookery Bay NERR
Naples, Florida on Saturday September 29, 2012 from 10 am - 3 pm

Don't miss this full day of activities including: narrated boat tours, introductory kayaking trips, free paddle boarding, a kids fishing clinic, live animal presentations, kids activities, behind-the-scenes tours of the science labs, food and more. The reduced admission fee for the day is just $3 for adults and free for children ages 12 and younger. Miami-based artist, angler, television producer and Tarpon Bay Tales show host Capt. Alex Suescun will greet guests and present a seminar on "Backwater Fishing Techniques." Check out Rookery Bay events calendar for more information.

Georgia

National Estuaries Day Beach Sweep
Darien, Georgia on Saturday, September 29 from 8:30 am - 1 pm

Hop on the ferry with the Sapelo Island NERR staff and volunteers for a short ferry ride over to the Reserve for a beach clean-up. Don't miss this great opportunity to help clean-up the estuary and make sure to register for this event with the volunteer coordinator.

Louisiana

La Fete d'Ecologie in Conjunction with National Estuaries Day
Morgan City, Lousiana on Saturday, November 10 from 10 am - 5 pm

Join the Barataria-Terrebonne Estuary NEP for their annual, one day festival, La Fete d'Ecologie. This festival is a celebration of the amazing environment, rich history, and the unique blend of cultures found in the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary. The estuary is the 4.2 million acres between the Atchafalaya and Mississippi Rivers (including the City of Morgan City) and, much like its people, is truly unique.

Maine

Punkinfiddle Festival in Conjunction with National Estuaries Day
Wells, Maine on Saturday, September 22 from 10 am - 4 pm

Join the Well NERR for the 10th annnual Punkinfiddle Festival. This National Estuaries Day celebration features traditional crafts, hands-on learning, lively music, old-fashioned games, fun food, farm animals, and lots of smiles in a historic seaside setting.

Maryland

National Estuaries Day & National Public Lands Day Celebration
Abingdon, Maryland on Saturday, September 29 from 9 am - 9 pm

Join the Anita C. Leight Estuary Center of the Chespeake Bay-MD NERR for a day full of fun, hardwork and friends. Start the day by pitching in to help with trail work on the Discovery Trail (9 am - 3 pm). Stick around to celebrate the bountiful wildlife of the estuary with a Harvest Moon Canoe trip (6:30 pm - 9 pm) and a Volunteer Campfire (7 pm - 8:30 pm). National Estuaries Day Hike to the Bay
Waquoit, Massachusetts on Saturday, September 29 from 10 am - Noon

Don't miss this Waquuoit Bay NERR free family program in celebration of National Estuaries Day. Enjoy fabulous fall colors while hiking the back dune trail through the Reserve, observing wetlands fall asters and seasonal birds along the way. Mississippi

National Estuaries Day at Grand Bay NERR
Moss Point, Mississippi on Saturday, September 29

Join us on National Estuaries Day for our Energy Open House to learn how you can incorporate renewable energy designs and practices in your own home or business. Tour the Grand Bay NERR's green building, check out the cool exhibits and hop in a kayak to explore the estuary. North Carolina

National Estuaries Day & National Public Lands Day - Birding Trip
Beaufort, North Carolina on Friday, September 28 from 1 pm -3:30 pm

The North Carolina NERR has teamed up with North Carolina Maritime Museum to offer joint series of fun events, including this fun and free birding trip to the Rachel Carson Component of the NC NERR. Participants will have an opportunity hop on a boat for a short ride over to the Reserve to explore a variety of estuarine habitats with a seasoned guide. National Estuaries Day & National Public Lands Day - Coastal Clean-up

National Estuaries Day "Science on the River" Open House
Staatsburg, New York on Saturday September 15, 2012 from 2 pm - 5 pm

Hudson River NERR is celebrating Estuaries Day AND their 30th Anniversary at their Norrie Point Environmental Center through an interactive open house. Don't miss this opportunity to chat with local scientists and see demonstrations of tools they use to study the river. Other activities include canoe trips, fishing, live bird of prey programs and open exhibits. For more information on this free event, check out their website.

National Estuaries Day at Hudson River Park
New York, New York on Saturday, September 29 from 11 am - 2 pm

Join Hudson River Park’s environmental educators at Pier 46 (at Charles Street) to celebrate National Estuary Day! Take part in catch and release fishing and kid-friendly experiments that will help you learn about the Hudson Estuary and the animals that call it home. Come enjoy the Hudson River during this free event and learn how you can give back to this invaluable ecosystem!

Oregon

Charleston Beautification Blitz
Charleston, Oregon on Friday September 21, 2012 from 10 am - 12:30 pm

Slough Slough NERR joins local partners for a community clean-up.  Volunteers are needed to help pull invasive species, conduct a litter clean-up and plant native species in community parks. Great opportunity to help clean-up the estuary!  Check out the event page for more information.

October Fish Festival in Conjunction with National Estuaries Day
Charleston, Oregon on Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 12 pm - 6 pm

This year, Octoberfish Festival will be celebrated in conjunction with National Estuaries Day, and feature special activities with the South Slough NERR. The afternoon will be filled with music and activities for the whole family, including dinner from the Tuna Guys. Admission is $1/person and proceeds from the event will benefit local children’s programs.

Rhode Island

Estuaries Day at Narragansett Bay NERR
Prudence Island, Rhode Island on Saturday September 22, 2012 from 9:45 am - 4:30 pm

Hop on the ferry for a fun-filled, field day on Prudence Island.  The Reserve has put together a special Estuaries Day tour to highlight the importance of estuaries. South Carolina

Beach/River Sweep Clean-up at Morgan Park
Georgetown, South Carolina on Saturday September 15, 2012 from 9 am - Noon

Show you care about estuaries by cleaning them up! Join North Inlet-Winyah Bay NERR other partners at the Morgan Park for a beach clean-up.  This event is part of the annual one-day litter cleanup of South Carolina beaches and waterways.  See the South Carolina DNR Beach Sweep River Sweep page for more sites and information.

Estuaries Day at North Inlet Winyah Bay in Conjunction with a 20th Anniversary Celebration
Georgetown, South Carolina on Friday September 21, 2012 from 9:30 am - 3 pm

The North Inlet Winyah Bay NERR has something special this Estuaries Day...they are turning 20!  Join them for full day of activities including guest lectures, updates on research activities, tasty lunch, highlights from the Coastal Zone Management Act 40th celebrations, and field explorations. Texas

Aransas National Wildlife Refuge Coastal Clean-up
Rockport, Texas on Saturday September 29, 2012 from 8 am - 3 pm

Mission Aransas NERR is sponsoring a clean-up of the Aransas NWR that lie within the boundaries of the NERR. A great opportunity to get out to a remote part of the estuary and help improve Whooping Crane habitat...plus a free lunch and water bottle included! San Antonio Bay Day in Conjunction with National Estuaries Day
Seadrift, Texas on September 29, 2012 from 8 am - 2 pm

The public is invited to join a variety of waterfront activities including kayaking and stand-up paddling tours in Seadrift to celebrate the inaugural San Antonio Bay Day. The San Antonio Bay Partnership is organizing the event to raise awareness of its efforts to protect, restore and enhance the environmental resources and human uses of San Antonio Bay.

Estuaries Day at Mission Aransas NERR
Rockport, Texas on Saturday September 29, 2012 from 10 am - 4 pm

Join the Reserve from 10 am - 11 am for a Estuary Habitat Hunt, a family-oriented, outdoor program exploring the value of estuaries as habitat. National Estuaries Day with the Galveston Bay Foundation
Texas City, Texas on Saturday, September 29 from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

Join the "Marsh Mania"! Volunteers will spend the morning planting marsh grass along the shoreline of Moses Lake in Texas City. Grab your family, friends, and colleagues and help improve estuary habitat with a few perks—fun, free t-shirt and free lunch! Volunteers are asked to register in order to participate in this event. Washington

Fidalgo Bay Day in Conjunction with National Estuaries Day
Anacortes, Washington on Saturday September 15, 2012 from 11am - 3 pm

Wisconsin

National Estuaries Day at Lake Superior NERR
Superior, Wisconsin on Saturday, September 29 from 2 pm - 7 pm

Don't miss this great opportunity to paddle and dine on the St. Louis River Estuary! Learn about this unique freshwater estuary by joining a guided kayak tour ($15/person or bring your own kayak) starting at 2pm and then stick around for a tasty cookout dinner ($15/person) starting at 6 pm.
